Modern Cafe

Over the years, the Modern Cafe evolved from blue-collar diner to hip, art-scene cafe with refined, classic American dishes. It is a retro space with a sense of humor. Today, under the watchful eye of Chef Jim Grell, the Modern offers seasonal menus inspired by local, sustainable, and organic ingredients. Quality wines are always on hand at the Modern Cafe, and now that we’ve scored a full liquor license, classic cocktails are available as well. The owners of the Modern believe in sustainable, living wages, commitment to long-term employment and reinvesting in the Northeast Minneapolis community. We use local organic or sustainable food whenever possible, such as from these area farms: Fischer Farms, Riverbend Farms, Donnay Farms, Meyer Ranch, Garden Farms, and Creekstone.
