Chez Fonfon

Chez Fonfon is one of four restaurants owned by Frank Stitts in Birmingham’s Southside neighborhood. Stitts’ culinary journey began in San Francisco and includes such mentors as Alice Waters, Simca Beck and Richard Olney. His travels took him throughout the French countryside working in vineyards in Provence as well as Burgundy and finally back home to foods and traditions that continue to be so much a part of his vision. As with all of his restaurants, Stitts honors his experience with sustainable chef Alice Waters by stocking his menu with wholesome, sustainably-raised meat, poultry, game, and produce. Chez Fonfon offers fine French cuisine in a rather elegant setting: the interior features gaslights, and charming, antique furniture. The French influence even extends beyond the restaurant to the courtyard in the back, where patrons can play the French ball game “boule.” Hours: Lunch is served 11:30am-2:30pm Thursday thru Friday. Dinner is served 4pm-11pm Tuesday thru Saturday. Closed Sunday.
